Nachhaltigkeit steht derzeit über (fast) allem - eine Industrie, die mit ca. 8% i.S. CO2 Ausstoß weltweit „ganz vorne“ liegt, ist die Zementproduktion. Mit etwa 2,3 Milliarden Tonnen pro Jahr entsprechen die Emissionen in etwa einem Drittel aller Kraftfahrzeuge (PKW + LKW) auf dem Globus. Hintergrund ist der Brennprozess bei der Produktion, der sehr energieintensiv ist und zudem über eine chemische Reaktion zusätzliches CO2 freisetzt.
So ist es nicht verwunderlich, wenn Unternehmen, die in der Produktion dieses wichtigen Werkstoffes nicht gerade der erste Gedanke i.S. Nachhaltigkeit sind, von den einschlägigen „Umweltaufpassern“ gerne öffentlich geächtet werden.
Aus unserer Sicht erscheint das etwas „kurz gedacht“. Schließlich gibt´s ohne Zement keinen Beton und in der Folge keine Gebäude, Brücken, Straßen und sonstige Infrastruktur. Ein einfaches Abstrafen ist deshalb nicht gerechtfertigt ist. Vielmehr hilft – wie so oft – ein Blick ins Detail und so fällt schnell auf, dass Forschung und Entwicklung eine hohe Bedeutung haben, wenn wir uns die Emissionsgrößenordnung (s.o.) ins Bewusstsein rufen.
